Summary:The Town of Abingdon is a historically significant town centrally located in Southwest Virginia. The Town’s status as a historical destination requires a proper preservation plan providing a living blueprint to assist in the preservation and maintenance of Sinking Spring Cemetery’s history and cultural resources.
The Town of Abingdon is seeking proposals from consulting groups specializing in historical preservation, cultural resource management, and historic cemetery maintenance to develop a Preservation Plan for Sinking Spring Cemetery. The motivation for this plan is the desire to:
1.) Provide a living document for both present and future maintenance needs ensuring the historic resources of Sinking Spring Cemetery are preserved and maintained properly;
2.) Establish a maintenance plan ensuring any repairs undertaken follow appropriate methods of repair;
3.) Promote the preservation and maintenance of a fundamental piece of Abingdon’s history. This plan will serve as a historical document, inventory database, and maintenance guide for Sinking Spring Cemetery.
The Town seeks professional design and planning services for a Preservation Plan for Sinking Spring Cemetery. The project will allow the Town of Abingdon to have an all-encompassing document for the historic site and the ability to prioritize maintenance needs in the future.
