The Marine Expeditionary Rifle Squad (MERS) Team (PMM-140.7) located at Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), Quantico Virginia, is responsible for providing, maintaining and updating the anthropometry of the Marine Corps as the design criteria for equipment and material solutions for the Marine Corps. Anthropometry involves the systematic measurement of the physical properties of the human body, primarily dimensional descriptors of body size and shape. MCSC funded the last anthropometry survey of the Marine Corps in 2009 via a Military Interdepartmental Purchase Request (MIPR) to the U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center, Natick MA, for execution. Data was collected in 2010 and the final analysis and report was published in 2013 as the “2010 Anthropometric Survey of U.S. Marine Corps Personnel Methods and Summary Statistics”, more commonly referred to as the Marine Corps Anthropometry Survey (MC-ANSUR). The anthropometry database requires updating as society and Service demographics change, new methods of collecting measurements improves, and emerging technologies and programs create new anthropometry data requirements.
To accomplish this task, the MERS Team requires anthropometric expertise and resources capable of updating the previous USMC Anthropometric Survey. The reductions in Government personnel and experts in this technical area have minimized organic capabilities. This task requires a capable vendor that can execute the anthropometric update in conjunction with Government supplemented personnel and resources.
