Description:

The City of Williamsburg Department of Public Works, hereafter known as the City, is seeking bids from contractors for the reconstruction of a pedestrian walkway and deck structure damaged by fire located at Redoubt Park, 510 Quarterpath Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23185. Redoubt Park contains historic Civil War redoubts (military earthworks) built during the Battle of Williamsburg. Preservation of the earthworks is critical and will be a key component of the reconstruction of the walkway. All work shall be complete with 45 days of notice to proceed.

Qualifications:
Contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to accomplish the following described tasks.
1. Obtain and pay for all necessary permits (i.e. Demolition, Land Disturbance, and Building permits) and pay for any additional fees (i.e. hauling and disposal). City permits are not waived, but City permit fees shall be waived. Submit to the City product data for all materials to be used in Task #4 below for review and approval.
2. Selectively demolish portions of the existing Elevated Ramp and Raised Observation Platform at Redoubt No. 1 that are damaged and remove all remaining debris such as nails and metallic brackets. Note that existing concrete foundations and embedded post bases are intact and shall be reused. Also, the first 16 feet of the ramp as shown on Sheet A1 of the attached plans is undamaged and can remain.
3. Install erosion and sediment control measures as shown on the provided plan (Sheet C3 specifically in the area around Redoubt No. 1 and the proposed work area. Vehicular access is only from the existing asphalt trail beginning at the entrance and stopping at the moat for Redoubt No. 1.
4. Install the timber substructure, composite decking, rails, guards, and stairs in accordance with the attached original plans. Refer to Sheets A1 to A5. In addition, install a handrail along each side of the stairway in compliance with Building Code.
5. Retain and submit to the City all documentation relevant to the removal and legal disposal of all materials from the site, as well as all warranties for installed products.

Written questions related to the project will be accepted up to five (5) business days prior to the closing date; it is the City’s discretion to respond to any inquiries beyond this time. Emails are an acceptable form of written documentation.
