The Tactical Helicopter Unit has an emergency need for a vendor to conduct a recovery and ground transport of an FBI UH-60M Helicopter from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Quantico, Virginia.
The helicopter was damaged during environmental training and is unable to be flown without maintenance. The FBI maintenance facility is in Virginia. Due to the limited number of assets available to conduct the FBI Tactical Helicopter mission, it is imperative that the aircraft is immediately transported back to Virginia for repair and returned to service. The UH-60M in its current configuration is valued at or above $25,000,000.00 and requires an experienced specialty vendor. The vendor must be qualified and experienced in recovering and transporting large military aircraft weighing in excess of 17,000 lbs. At the pickup location, the process would require a crane and experienced team to place the aircraft on a special truck, setup for the UH-60M with specifically designed supports and tiedowns to ensure the heavy aircraft is not damaged and does not shift in transit. The aircraft would need to be driven cross-country on a low to the ground trailer, with lead and trail vehicles to ensure the safe transit of the aircraft with minimal chance of damage during transit due to collisions with motorists or overpasses. Then an additional crane and crew is required at the destination to remove the aircraft from the transport truck.
