Description

The George Washington and Jefferson National Forests is soliciting applications for a special use permit for the operation and maintenance of the Bolar Flat Marina and Day Use Area on Lake Moomaw in Bath County, Virginia. The recreation area includes a floating dock with slips for 37 boats, 652 square feet store, 2,000 gallon gas tank and pump, two full hookup RV sites for manager's use, double-lane boat ramp, dry storage lot for approximately 40 boats and recreational vehicles, group picnic shelter with restrooms that accommodates 50-60 people, 18-site picnic area with a restroom building, and a small fishing pier. Past annual revenues since 2017 ranged from $119,000 to $192,000.

Lake Moomaw encompasses 2,530 surface areas and is surrounded by public land. A Forest Service campground of more than 140 campsites is nearby. Many campground visitors rely on the Bolar Flat boat ramp, store and gas sales to support their outdoor recreation activities.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to participate in an on-site tour on Monday, December 5, 2022, from 2:00-4:30 p.m. with a bad weather backup date of Friday, December 9, 2022, from 2:00-4:30 p.m.. Anyone interested in this opportunity and/or participating in the scheduled on-site tour should notify Jake Lewis, Recreation Program Manager for the James River and Warm Springs Ranger Districts at ronald.lewis2@usda.gov. Please include in the email subject "Interest in Bolar Flat Marina Prospectus".
